Commercial activity is encouraged to the extent that it primarily meets needs of residents of the community. The major industries of the San Francisco metro area include high technology, medical science and shipping, while the city remains a hub for the financial industry.
EVENTS
The residents of Portola Valley are committed to their community and neighborly events. The annual Blues & Barbecue is a fundraiser for Portola Valley’s Open Space Fund. The Holiday Fair, held in November and December features a craft show of jewelry, paintings, ornaments and woodcrafts made from local artisans. The Town Picnic kicks off the summer, featuring a car show, carnival games, baking contests, music and all around family fun.
EDUCATION
The Town of Portola Valley has two public schools and two private schools within the town limits. Ormondale and Corte Madera public schools serve elementary and middle school students, while Woodside High School serves students for grades 9-12. Private schools include the Woodland School and Woodside Priory. Just minutes away, the esteemed Stanford University offers options for higher education.
THINGS TO DO
Portola Valley boast nearly the same number of miles of trails as there are of roads, contributing to a valuable recreational asset. Allowing for an active lifestyle for walkers, runners and cyclists, the trails are both built and maintained by volunteers. Full-scale theater productions are staged through the Portola Valley Theater Conservatory, taking place in the campus theatre. Further, neighboring attractions and events of San Jose and San Francisco are a quick drive for residents. Ride the streetcars, or visit San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, Alcatraz, or Chinatown. The San José Museum of Art, the Tech Museum, the Rosicrucian Museum and the San José Museum of Quilts and Textiles all top the list for weekend fun. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike, bike, camp and ski Portola Valley’s close proximity to the mountains and the ocean. |
